On Saturday 25th November 2023, at St Peter’s Church, there was an unveiling of a 400th Anniversary Plaque in special recognition of John Heminge from Droitwich Spa, for his work in the publication of Shakespeare’s First Folio of Plays in 1623.
This year marks the 400th anniversary of the publication of the first folio of William Shakespeare’s plays, saved by John Heminge in 1623. On the 25th November 1556 John Heminge was baptised at St Peter’s Church. He later became an actor manager of The King’s Men. Together with Henry Condell, they printed 36 plays in the First Folio; saving Shakespeare for the world.
