At a ceremony on Monday 17th February, Rebecca was given Honorary Freeman Status of Droitwich Spa by the Town Council, and said: “I’m always so thankful for the people that have gotten me to all these places and I couldn’t do it without this town. It’s one thing, representing your country and knowing that you’re doing it with the flag, but actually representing your town as well is just the most amazing thing that I can do for them.”
Rebecca’s brother and fellow Team GB athlete, Matthew, was also recognised at the event, by the High Sheriff of Worcestershire, Charles Moyle.

Councillor George Duffy proposed the motion: “That the Town Mayor and Elected Councillors of the Town of Droitwich Spa, acting for the Town Council, do hereby admit Rebecca Katharine Redfern MBE to be an Honorary Freeman of the Town of Droitwich Spa in recognition of representing the Community and Sporting achievements. In particular the inspirational gold medal winning success at the Paris Summer Paralympic Games 2024.
Councillor Bob Brookes seconded the motion, and said: ”It is my great privilege to take part in this ceremony to confer the honorary freedom of our town upon Rebecca Redfern, an outstanding athlete and inspiration to many.
Rebecca’s achievements in the pool are truly remarkable. As a Paralympic swimmer, she has represented our country with immense dedication, winning medals on the world stage and demonstrating extraordinary resilience, skill, and determination. Her success at the Paralympic Games, World Championships, and European Championships, and competing at the Commonwealth Games, has brought pride not only to her sport but also to our town.
It was at Droitwich Dolphins Swimming Club that she honed her skills, demonstrating the determination and talent that would later take her to the world stage.
Beyond her athletic accomplishments, Rebecca’s commitment to supporting others is equally commendable. As a patron of Sight Concern Worcester, she plays a vital role in advocating for people with visual impairments, offering inspiration and encouragement to those facing similar challenges.
Tonight, we recognise not just her sporting excellence, but also her contributions to the wider community. She embodies the values of perseverance, humility, and service—qualities that make her a truly deserving recipient of this honour.
Rebecca, on behalf of our town, I am pleased to second this motion to bestow upon you the honorary freedom of Droitwich Spa. We thank you for your achievements, your dedication, and the example you set for us all.”
